Sometimes I wonder why when it’s so darn cold in winter, and you’re more likely to get wet in a sudden rain storm that pick up an enviable tan! But then we do have The Queen. Part of the United Kingdom, England occupies the central and southern two-thirds of the island of Great Britain with its territory also including several smaller isles and archipelagos. With almost 68 million people England covers 130,279 square kilometres.

HERITAGE

Formed of the union of small Celtic and Anglo-Saxon kingdoms during the early medieval period, England’s history dates back millennia. Fought over for centuries by Vikings, Romans, Kings and Queens, England has been of critical importance to global history and culture.

FOOD

With Indian restaurants far outnumbering the number of fish & chip shops, there’s a rich and diverse food culture in England. But travel the country and you’ll find regional dishes like Stargazy pie, jam roly-poly, jellied eels and even more weird wonders to get your teeth stuck into.

LANDSCAPES

England has a long coastline of 3,200km, yet no town or village is more than 120km from the sea! More rugged in the north and the west, the highest mountains are in Cumbria and the Lake District. The stunning landscapes change colour seasonally and it’s easy to see why people come to roam and explore.

For more than 300 years, England’s wildlife has captivated scientists and artists alike. From bats, bees and badgers to otters, roe deer and rare red squirrels, mud flats, coastlines and mountains, there’s wealth of flora and fauna to be discovered.
